In just 3 days Battleship will finally float into theaters, but its premiere actually went down last week and Malin Akerman, the gorgeous star of another big project Rock of Ages looked stunning on the red carpet. A lot of people don’t know this, but Malin used to front a rock band called The Petalstones and is still married to the drummer.
So, did all this time rocking out help prepare her for her duet with Tom Cruise in Rock of Ages? Malin tells us: Not really, this is a little bit different because we recorded the song and then it was on playback while we were shooting on set. W

Unfortunately, it was time.
Hollie Cavanagh, the pint-sized blondie with the funny accent and the big voice, was eliminated on “American Idol” tonight, and although she was one of my favorite contestants this season, this was the only result that would have made sense this week.
After last night’s second round of songs where Phillip Phillips, Joshua Ledet and Jessica Sanchez gave fantastic performances, Hollie’s good-but-not-great showing with Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” was the final nail in the coffin.
There is some irony in the fact that the song that began the “Idol” journey for Season Four winner Carrie Underwood was the end for Hollie, a big fan of Carrie’s who sang “Jesus Take The Wheel” a few weeks back.
Emma Louise Birdsall is the last singer to earn a spot in The Voice Top 24.
AT LAST – the Top 24 singers have been picked on The Voice.
The final showdowns in the battle rounds took place last night, and there were some surprising selections and eliminations.
Favourite Darren Percival brought people to tears with his soulful performance, while shy singer Casey Withoos did not come out of her shell enough to impress Seal.
The show started with a battle of the backing singers between Carmen Smith and Michelle Serret-Cursio.
Coach Joel Madden pitted the women against each other to Rihanna’s We Found Love.
Madden decided Smith found the soul of the song and connected the best with him and the rest of the audience.
Next up was so-called “pretty boy” Sam Ludeman and track pants wearer Kieran Fraser singing Coldplay’s Viva La Vida.
Seal decided Ludeman was more likely to take direction after the two singers took very different approaches in their performances.
Sunshine Coast local Kelsie Rimmer took on Brittany Cairns with Adele’s ballad Turning Tables.
It was an “emotionally moving” decision for Keith Urban, who chose Brittany Cairns as the singer who had more vocal control over the song.
Melbourne residents Matt Hetherington and Jerson Trinidad faced off on Higher Ground by Stevie Wonder, selected by their coach Delta Goodrem.
After dominating rehearsals and the live performance, Hetherington lived to sing another day.
Madden’s pop femme fatales Yianna Stavrou and Sarah De Bono were tasked with singing Gossip’s Heavy Cross.
The flame-haired De Bono won, with Madden praising her as someone who could take him “all the way” in the competition.
Darren Percival let his soul shine through in James Taylor’s Shower the People, earning him a spot in Urban’s live show team.
When asked why he hadn’t had success in the music industry yet, Percival said he didn’t know why but that singing was his passion.
“I feel I’m here on this planet to sing,” he said.

Motive in fatal shooting of tow-truck driver unclear
Driver shot dead; truck crashes into house
Solid progress had been made in the investigation of the murder of a city tow-truck driver, but a nearly 40-year-old city code provision on restrictive tow zones has too many legal issues to be be readily enforceable, Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda told The Buffalo News on Tuesday.
Derenda repeatedly declined to comment when asked if a suspect or suspects have emerged in the shooting death Saturday afternoon of Corddaryl Henley, or whether police believe a business rival working for a different tow-truck company may be responsible for the shooting.
Henley, 25, the father of three, was inside his Patriarch Towing truck when he was shot to death at about 1:40 p.m.

Late actor Jonathan Frid gave Johnny Depp his blessing to star in a big screen version of his supernatural TV series “Dark Shadows” by sending him a handwritten letter and an autographed photo.
Depp stars in director Tim Burton’s new movie revamp as vampire Barnabas Collins, the cult character made famous by Frid, and the Hollywood hunk reveals he will always treasure the special note he received from the TV veteran giving him his official seal of approval. See Depp as Tonto
Great lineup, messy scheduling. This year’s version of B.O.M.B. Fest, happening Saturday and Sunday at the Comcast Theatre in Hartford, brings a broad selection of buzz-worthy acts to Connecticut, some for the first time, and then pits them against each other in an indie-rock cage match of overlapping set times.
The headliners, Weezer on Saturday and Snoop Dogg on Sunday, have 90 minutes each to themselves, but the rest of the festival means making some potentially tough choices, even when you weed out filler like EOTO and George Clinton & Parliament/Funkadelic.

First lady Michelle Obama continues to take Hollywood by storm. She’s appeared with David Letterman, Jay Leno and Ellen DeGeneres in recent months — and Saturday she made her first-ever live appearance on Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles.
Mrs. Obama presented “The Big Help Award” to country pop singer Taylor Swift for Swift’s work helping tornado and flood victims.
“I’m here because I’ve always felt an obligation to give back; to lift up others the way my parents, my teachers and mentors lifted me. And that’s something that our next honoree believes, too,” Obama said at the awards ceremony. Read full article…
