In 2008 many were asking if then Senator Barack Obama was black enough to be called the first African-American president, in 2012 the same question in being posed regarding actress Zoe Saldana.
Miss Saldana who is Dominican-Puerto Rican is apparently not dark skinned enough to tackle the role of jazz legend Nina Simone in the upcoming movie Simone (the role was originally offered to Rn’B singer Mary J Blige but it appears the producers have decided to take another direction).
While many African-Americans have voiced their disappointment in the choice via Twitter and Facebook, Tiffani Jones, who runs Coffee Rhetoric has taken it a step further by launching a petition on Change.org asking that The Avatar be replaced with a darker star.
Over 3000 people have signed the petition asking the director Cynthia Mott to go with someone like Viola Davis or Kimberly Elise.
Among the 3000 folks is Nina’s daughter Simone Kelly who wants a darker star to play her mother.

For a “Wallflower,” Stephen Chbosky’s Charlie has quite a reputation.
The character, a sensitive 15-year-old high school freshman who initially keeps to himself, was first introduced to a generation of readers in 1999 as the protagonist of Chbosky’s novel, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.” Since then, he’s become just as famous for being too risqué for some classrooms as he is for endearing himself to a legion of fans.
In a series of letters addressed to an anonymous reader, Charlie describes the disorientation of losing a friend to suicide, the ways high school can feel like an experiment in isolation, and, at the heart of the story, his bond with older students Sam and her stepbrother, Patrick.
Now, 13 years after readers first met him, Charlie is in theaters this weekend in an adaptation written and directed by Chbosky.

Rapper Nicki Minaj and Australian country singer Keith Urban will join the “American Idol” judges panel when the TV competition’s 12th season starts in January, the Fox network said Sunday.
The panel is growing from three to four judges next season, with singer Mariah Carey, hired in July, and “Idol” original Randy Jackson sitting with Minaj and Urban, the network said.
The judges immediately jumped into action Sunday, auditioning singers at New York’s Lincoln Center.
Rocker Steven Tyler and singer Jennifer Lopez left the show at the end of last season, after judging for two seasons.
Jackson’s return was made official after weeks of speculation he would move to a mentor role on the show.
Earlier speculation also included the names of Latin singer Enrique Iglesias and former “Idol” contestant Adam Lambert as possible judges.
The official announcement noted Minaj’s “unique performance style and iconic fashion.”
“Minaj became the first female solo artist to have seven singles simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 chart,” it said.
Minaj, 29, “represents a different side of the music industry, who has now crossed into mainstream culture with her unique artistry, style and flair,” Cecile Frot-Coutaz, the CEO of “Idol” owner FremantleMedia, said.
Urban, 44, is a four-time Grammy Award winner and has recorded 14 songs that topped the country music charts.
