Former Connecticut state troubadour Thomasina Levy was part of a team of local musicians who won an award earlier this month at the Native American Music Awards.
Levy and fellow Litchfield resident Joan Spear won best song/single of the year for “Out of Many We Are One,” which featured contributions from Nammy and Grammy award winner Joseph FireCrow, Grammy winning cellist David Darling, engineer Tommy Skarupa, bass player Dave Anderson and vocalists Bill Lauf, Rachel Rubin, Galen Brandt and Robert Brereton.
According to a press release, Levy and Spear wrote the song “with the hope of inspiring all Americans to find common ground.”

Splice, the sci-fi horror film starring Sarah Polley and Adrien Brody, won the Golden Box Office award on Thursday for being the highest-grossing Canadian film of 2010.
The prize was awarded to Doug Taylor and his co-writer Vincenzo Natali, who also directed the picture.
The Goldie, given out by Telefilm, comes with a $40,000 cash prize, which Taylor and Natali will share.
Splice stars Polley and Brody as brilliant married scientists who splice together genes to create a human-animal hybrid.

The Genie Awards, honouring the best in Canadian movies, will be handed out March 10 in Ottawa. The ceremony – which will feature appearances by such high-profile stars as best supporting actress nominee Minnie Driver, host William Shatner, and singer Melissa Etheridge – is the culmination of a good year for the industry. Paul Giamatti, star of the comic drama Barney’s Version, has already won a Golden Globe Award, and Denis Villeneuve’s Incendies headlined a list of Canadians who got Oscar nominations.
